It’s been a little hard for me to find time to blog recently. Where do the days go? Seems like between three meals a day, loads of laundry, four littles to keep track of, clean up after, and love, as well as a marriage to prioritize, there’s only minutes every week to even open my computer. Sometimes that means just paying the bills. Tis the season of our lives. So, what are we up to?
Well, we’re walking slow for one little lady. Little Sis doesn’t want to sit, or be set down, or even be stood next to something. She wants to move. Take me for a walk please! Hands are under commission for walking assistance and our gaits are slowed for her excited, toddling steps as she laughs her way from destination to destination hanging from two big fingers.
We’ve learned ladders are not only great for getting up high, but they’re perfect for use as a sky-high toilet. Little Brother helped us discover that this week when I found him at the top of our 12 foot ladder with a puddle below. Mm-Hm! We’ve also learned that those bright red and green sprinkles (that go on cookies), look really pretty dumped all over the floor with two footprints in the middle that matched those of the perpetrator. I don’t make this stuff up, but I do clean it up. 😉
By the way, did you know it’s cold outside? Winter is here even on the coast, and I love it. Crispy ground and sparkly rooftops and van doors that don’t open to take kids to school. It’s beautiful, and I get to enjoy a cozy fire all day. Perfect recipe for Christmas warm fuzzy’s. 🙂
I have discovered our Oldest loves washing mirrors and windows, for which I am so taking advantage of. Unfortunately, or dog is no respecter of clean sliding doors and immediately puts her dirty paws all over sparkly glass. Grrr! All I can say is she’s lucky she’s a sweet girl…and our kids like her.
Half-Pint is in full cookie baking mode with this season. Everyday she comes home ready to bake up another treat. I think she likes the whole making it process just about as much as the eating it process.
My hubby has just completed refinishing a new *old* dresser for our girlies, fixing broken this and broken that, painting, getting Christmas lights hung, and lots more! He also caught a beautiful, yummy steelhead a week ago that he smoked and we’ll be able to enjoy for awhile.
As for me…
I’m thankful to live in a quiet little town where we make our own busy-ness this time of year, or don’t. There’s only so many Christmas-y things to do around here. We have no tv commercials, no billboards, no big stores. It’s a simple Christmas, with a Baby at the center. We’ve done some cookie decorating with friends, had a school Christmas concert, been practicing for the Christmas program at church, and are truly just enjoying the neighbors lights and quietness of another small town Christmas.
I ran into a song that keeps playing over and over in my head this season with it’s short, yet profound message, “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus”. This combined with the advent passages we’re reading throughout the Bible make for a beautiful presentation of HIStory.
- Come, Thou long-expected Jesus, Born to set Thy people free; From our fears and sins release us, Let us find our rest in Thee. Israel’s Strength and Consolation, Hope of all the earth Thou art; Dear Desire of every nation, Joy of every longing heart.
- Born Thy people to deliver, Born a child and yet a King, Born to reign in us forever, Now Thy gracious kingdom bring. By Thine own eternal Spirit Rule in all our hearts alone; By Thine all-sufficient merit, Raise us to Thy glorious throne.
Beautiful, Redemptive, Freeing…Grace. Ponder it a little with me, would you?
Come, Lord Jesus, Come!
